• This year’s XIII Abertis Prize awarded by the Abertis-UPC Chair has gone to PhD. Carlos Llorca García (Universitat Politècnica de València) for his work entitled Analysis of the vehicle overtakings in conventional roads and modelling proposal for the improvement of their design and signposting.
• In the Master category, the prize has gone to Meritxell Pacheco Paneque (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya) and her dissertation entitled Traffic parameters estimations from the analysis of connected vehicles data.
• A total of 37 candidacies for both prizes (17 for the category of Doctoral Thesis and 20 for the category of Shorter Dissertation, End of Degree or Master Projects), the highest number in the 13 years of life of this Abertis Prize.
• The Minister of Territory and Sustainability of the Government of Catalonia, Josep Rull; the Chairman of Abertis, Salvador Alemany; and the Rector of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), Prof. Enric Fossas, have awarded the prizes to the winners.

• The work of Pablo Picasso can be viewed in the city of São Paulo from 22 May until 14 August 2016.
• Entitled “Picasso: Erudite Hand, Wild Eye”, the exhibition features 116 works by the artist, the vast majority unseen in Brazil, and 37 by other artists with a connection to the Spanish painter.

• The Abertis Foundation has garnered the accolade for its work in furthering the social and workplace integration of young people with Down’s Syndrome and other intellectual disabilities in recent years.
• Abertis and its Foundation employ six young people with an intellectual disability in Madrid. The Group employs 31 people with a disability across Spain as a whole.
• The Abertis Foundation runs the Roadside Assistant project in Madrid, which encompasses road safety, education and social action through the workplace integration of people with Down’s Syndrome.

• The Foundation Abertis has garnered the accolade for its work in furthering the social and workplace integration of young people with Down’s Syndrome and other disabilities in recent years.
• Thirty one young people with disabilities currently work for Abertis Infraestructuras at its Barcelona and Madrid offices and for the Abertis Foundation on initiatives such as the Roadside Assistant, Assistant for Older People and Kango!. Twenty five of these people are employed in Catalonia.

The Abertis Foundation has, for yet another year running, calculated and offset the carbon footprint generated by the activities at its Castellet Castle headquarters, continuing the carbon management strategy it began in 2008. Its 2015 calculations, based on ISO 14064-1:2012 and the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol, have taken into account the CO₂ emissions generated by using petrol, gas-oil and electricity; by travelling for conferences and guided visits; by using water, paper and toners; and by treating the waste produced throughout the year. The Abertis Foundation’s carbon footprint has been reduced by 1.22 tCO₂e in 2015 compared with the previous year, which represents a 3% reduction during the financial year.

• The President of Abertis and the Abertis Foundation, Salvador Alemany, took part in the closing ceremony of the event, delivering a speech in which he underlined the uniqueness and importance of the project, which is the first and only example of public-private partnership on a Category 2 centre between UNESCO, the government and a private company.
• During his visit to Peru, Salvador Alemany met the country’s prime minister, Pedro Cateriano.
• The Foundation took part in a session running alongside the event where it highlighted the unstinting efforts of the Castellet Centre to disseminate information and unlock synergies with the other Biosphere Reserves around the world.
