Under the title "Mediterranean Biosphere Reserves as living laboratories for applied research and integrated landscape management. MedMaB Thematic Network: UNESCO Mediterranean Network of Biosphere Reserves", students of the course on analysis and management of natural landscapes discussed and reflected for a whole afternoon on integrated landscape management and participatory socio-environmental research methods in Biosphere Reserves.

Roser Maneja and Mari Carmen Romera have presented the UNESCOMED Center and the MedMaB Thematic Network, supported by the Abertis Foundation, at the 2nd Congress of the IberoMAB Network, as one of its inspiring success stories. The Congress brings together the network of MaB committees and biosphere reserves of Iberoamerica and the Caribbean, Spain and Portugal.

From the UNESCOMED Center for Mediterranean Biosphere Reserves and the Abertis Foundation, we want to celebrate the second International Day of Biosphere Reserves, established by UNESCO with the aim of calling the attention of the world population on the approach to sustainable development, and the outstanding and exemplary role that the Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Program and the World Network of Biosphere Reserves can play on it.

As has occurred since 2015, the UNESCOMED Center hosted the students of the Interdisciplinary Studies in Environmental, Economic, and Social Sustainability Master (SAES) of the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (ICTA-UAB) for the inauguration of the academic year on October 6th.

The Forest Bioeconomy research group (BIOFOR) of the Forest Science and Technology Center of Catalonia (CTFC) has met at Castellet Castle, headquarters of the UNESCOMED Center. The group has the double goal of advancing the design and implementation of transformative models of the bioeconomy and of resilient landscapes to the effects of climate change as well as promoting knowledge transfer at the Mediterranean scale through UNESCOMED and the MedMaB network.
