Clémence Moreau holds a Phd Degree in Geography of Montpellier University (2019). She is specialized in Human and Social Geography.
Her Phd entitled “Opening the debate on baseline”, focused on the analysis of representations of landscape dynamics on the Mont Lozere (Cevennes National Park and Biosphere Reserve). In this thesis, she developed an original conceptual framework combining the concepts of ecosystem services and baseline references into a comprehensive and a research-action approach through a role playing game. This work contributed to address both the question of reconciliating different objectives in protected areas, the role of the baseline in landscape governance and the scientific and operational added-value of the concept of ecosystem services.
This Phd was supervised by Cecile Barnaud (INRA, France), Raphael Mathevet (CNRS, France and French Institute of Pondichery), in partnership with Cevennes National Park. It was part of the SECOCO project, coordinated by Cecile Barnaud.

Antonio Abreu Highlights the Role of Biosphere Reserves in Climate Action at #MedMaB 2025
At the 4th Meeting of the Mediterranean Network of Biosphere Reserve Managers (MedMAB), Antonio Abreu, Director of the Division of Ecological and Earth Sciences at UNESCO, delivered a compelling address on the crucial role Biosphere Reserves play in climate change adaptation and mitigation—particularly in the Mediterranean, a region warming faster than the global average.
Abreu underscored the unique value of the World Network of Biosphere Reserves in offering climate solutions that are deeply rooted in the interaction between people and nature. He noted that, as ...
