The Dalí retrospective, sponsored by Abertis through its Brazilian subsidiary Arteris, is already the most visited exhibition about the artist in history. During its time in Rio de Janeiro it was visited by around one million people, beating the previous records set at Centre Pompidou in Paris (790,000) and the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid (732,000).
The Salvador Dalí exhibition is also the most successful in the 25-year history of the Bank of Brazil Cultural Centre, which hosted it in Rio de Janeiro from 29 May to 22 September coinciding with the World Cup in Brazil.
It is the largest retrospective of original work by Salvador Dalí to travel to Latin America, featuring a total of 220 pieces (164 artworks and 56 documents) with a special emphasis on his Surrealist period. It is set to continue its journey in Brazil at the Tomie Ohtake Institute in São Paulo, where it will run from 17 October until early next year and where new visitor records are expected to be set.
