Abertis takes the Madrid Down's Syndrome Foundation to the Reina Sofía Museum

Various groups of boys and girls from the Madrid Down’s Syndrome Foundation have had the chance to take part in the activity “Actuar en la sombra” (Act in the Shadows) over recent days. The Abertis Foundation helped to organise the activity, which was held in Spain’s capital at the Reina Sofía Museum.

The groups learned how movement, body language, dramatic representation and the expressive potential of light have an important bearing on the skills and abilities they work on in their occupational centres. Furthermore, the activity has shown them how theatre can give rise to different modes of interaction and personal expression, based on the works of authors such as Yves Klein.

This project is part of a framework of actions by the Abertis Foundation, the Madrid Down’s Syndrome Foundation and the Reina Sofía Museum to make contemporary art more accessible to people with intellectual disabilities, using interdisciplinary tools to directly tie into the experiences and knowledge of each individual.
