Abertis Foundation promotes responsible driving outside Castelldefels nightclubs

The Abertis Foundation in partnership with Casteldefells Town Council (Barcelona) launched an initiative today to encourage responsible driving in the most popular nightspots under the “Et queda una vida” [A whole life ahead of you] campaign run by the foundation since 2009.

A team of volunteers from the Guttman Institute in Barcelona who suffered spinal injuries in road accidents will join Red Cross volunteers tomorrow night in the area around l’Avinguda dels Banys Nous, to raise awareness of the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs or losing concentration at the wheel. The aim is to ensure nightclub-goers are conscious of the fatal consequences of acting irresponsibly.

The campaign launch was attended by Abertis Foundation director, Sergi Loughney; Castelldefels Town Council’s public highways and governance alderman, David Solé; and the chief of Cas-telldefels Local Police, Domingo López.

This is the second year in a row that the Abertis Foundation has run the initiative, which will also take place at the Palacio de los Deportes in Madrid on November 24 and 25 in partnership with Madrid City Council.

The Abertis Foundation has been the driving force behind the project; mindful of the need in society to draw attention to the risks of acting irresponsibly on a night out. It is one element of the extensive Road Safety Programme run by the Abertis Foundation since 2003. The programme involves research, scientific workshops, road safety classes at schools, and awareness-raising campaigns. In particular, the initiative forms part of the “Et queda una vida” awareness-raising campaign targeting 18 to 30 year olds.

The Abertis Foundation carries out social, environmental and cultural activities, and is one of the responses to the Corporate Social Responsibility commitment assumed by Abertis, world leader in highway management. The foundation’s headquarters, Castellet castle, is a UNESCO centre for the Mediterranean Ecosystem Biosphere Reserves.
