The International University Campus of the Mediterranean Biosphere Reserves, hosted in the Castellet Castle, headquarters of the UNESCOMED Center, has celebrated the inauguration of the new edition of the Interdisciplinary Master in Environmental, Economic, and Social Sustainability (SAES) of the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (ICTA-UAB). This innovative program aims to train professionals capable of responding to the global challenges facing our planet, from the conservation of biodiversity to the sustainable management of natural resources.

Saleem Haddad is a young researcher who won the UNESCO MAB Young Scientist Award for his work focusing on the Mediterranean Biosphere Reserves. He is studying at Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (HNEE) and accomplished his master's thesis in collaboration with the International Center for the Mediterranean Biosphere Reserves (UNESCOMED centre). He defines himself as a descendant of a Mediterranean family. An international family that lived in close connection to their land, shaping it and getting shaped by it, physically and emotionally, that grew up with the values of equity, justice and openness to other cultures.

The Dana Biosphere Reserve, belonging to the Mediterranean Biosphere Reserves Thematic Network (MedMaB), holds immense ecological, cultural, and economic values. Its diverse landscapes, encompassing Mediterranean, Irano-Turanian, and Sudanian biogeographical zones, make it a unique habitat for over 891 plant species, including rare and endemic varieties. The Biosphere Reserve Institute (BRI) is a scientific institution of the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (HNEE), recently designated as a Category 2 Institute under the auspices of UNESCO (C2C) at the 42nd session of UNESCO's General Conference. The BRI was established in 2019 to promote education, research and training focused on UNESCO's MAB Programme and the World Network of Biosphere Reserves as a tool for its implementation.
