The Foundation Consejo España-EE.UU. meets at Castellet castle

Castellet castle, headquarters of the abertis foundation, today hosted a meeting of the board of the Foundation Consejo España-Estados Unidos, an organisation which fosters cooperation between the two countries and relations in the economic, political and cultural fields. The meeting was chaired by the president of the Catalan government, Artur Mas, the United States ambassador to Spain, Alan Solomont, and the chairman and the managing director of abertis, Salvador Alemany and Francisco Reynés respectively.

Headed by Juan Rodríguez Inciarte, the Foundation Consejo España-Estados Unidos (www.spainusa.org), is a non-profit body set up in 1997 by public initiative and backed by the authorities and academic institutions. It fosters a plural dialogue – economic, financial, cultural, educational, political and professional – between Spanish society and that of the Untied States. Its governing board is made up mainly of executives from the main Spanish companies and financial institutions with interests in the United States. The board also includes representatives of the main political parties, senior government officials and representatives of leading universities and other institutions.

The abertis foundation (www.fundacioabertis.org) was set up in 1999 to foster research into the impact of infrastructures on the regions, especially on the environment, population and economy. As one of the responses to Corporate Social Responsibility by abertis, the foundation also runs a broad Road Safety Programme which fosters road safety education and awareness, and carries out cultural and social action projects. It is headed by Miquel Roca i Junyent.
