The abertis foundation will collaborate in the efforts to regenerate the Foix Natural Park forest area affected by fire

Last Friday, the abertis foundation announced that it will take part in the cleaning and regeneration of the Foix Natural Park (Alt Penedès, Barcelona) forest area that was affected by fire on the 12th of June.

Salvador Alemany, President of abertis and the abertis foundation, made this announcement during a visit to the fire-affected area with Salvador Esteve, President of the Barcelona Provincial Council, Josep E. Llebot, Secretary of Environment and Sustainability and Josep Escorihuela, Director General of Natural Environment and Biodiversity for the Government of Catalonia.

The work will consist of removing and cutting down the trees affected by the fire in order to leave the area in the best conditions possible for the environment’s natural regeneration process to begin.

The fire affected an area of more than 636 hectares, primarily in the Foix and El Garraf natural parks. The burnt area is located in the municipalities of Castellet i la Gornal and Vilanova i la Geltrú.

The Foix Natural Park covers an area of 3,098 hectares and forms part of Barcelona Provincial Council’s Natural Parks Network. The abertis foundation, whose headquarters is at Castellet Castle, is part of the Foix Natural Park Consortium, which also includes Barcelona Provincial Council and the city councils of Castellet i la Gornal and Santa Margarida i els Monjos.
