Higher education in Mediterranean Biosphere Reserves: A set of guidelines produced by the Edu-BioMed project

Sara Martínez,

The Edu-BioMed, a project promoted by the UNESCOMED center in 2018, is an Erasmus+ programme aimed to strengthen, improve and upgrade academic activity at four Moroccan and Lebanese universities in the context of Mediterranean Biosphere Reserves (BRs), in collaboration and through networking with BRs’ stakeholders.

One of the specific objectives of Edu-BioMed is to further build the capacity of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to provide education in and around the topic of Biosphere Reserves and set the basis for future curricula development opportunities.

To achieve this important aim, Edu-BioMed partners have drafted a set of guidelines for higher education in Mediterranean Biosphere Reserves with the aim to pave the way for future curricula developments in the field.

The document includes a proposal for an ‘ideal’ syllabus, which takes into account the diversified skills required to work on the different aspects of the human-nature relationship and land management.

Although the main target of these guidelines are the partner Universities, it may also be a very useful tool for other HEIs working on upgrading their academic activity in the context of Mediterranean BRs.

The document is available here.
