-The main activities will take place on 1 and 2 December at the Barcelona headquarters, where there will be an exhibition featuring ten non-profit organisations which, among other things, will be inviting the abertis employees to join their charity projects.

-The day, which is the result of an initiative by the company’s workers, aims to reach the 5,888 employees that abertis has in Spain.

On 1 and 2 December, abertis will holds its first Volunteer Day, as part of the events to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the abertis foundation. The initiative, which forms part of “Voluntaris”, abertis‘ Corporate Volunteer Programme, will take place at the company’s various offices and centres in Spain. The initiative will also form part of the celebration of International Volunteer Day, on 5 December.

The main activities of abertis‘ Volunteer Day will take place at the company’s corporate headquarters in Barcelona, situated in the Zona Franca Logistics Park, where 1,100 employees are based. An exhibition featuring NGOs has been set up for both days, and will have information points on ten non-profit organisations: The Red Cross, the Guttmann Institute, the Mambré Foundation, Telecos Sin Fronteras, the Traffic Accident Prevention Association (P(A)T), the Marianao Foundation, the FAREM Association, the Food Bank Foundation, the Training and Work Foundation and the Saint John of God Hospital.

The aim of this exhibition is to publicise the work carried out by these organisations and to encourage the abertis employees to get involved in charity projects.

Meanwhile, with the Christmas holidays approaching, the collection of food in the Barcelona and Madrid offices is being promoted, as well as in the abertis telecom centres in Andalusia, Asturias, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla-León, Galicia, Extremadura, Murcia, the Basque Country, Valencia and Zaragoza. Clothing collection points have also been installed at the Barcelona and Madrid headquarters.

In addition, a charity breakfast has been organised, through a voluntary contribution of 1 Euro in the Logistics Park restaurants. The funds raised will be donated to the Privada Banc dels Aliments Foundation in Barcelona. A charity walk has also been organised to raise funds for the “Sponsor a treatment” programme of the Saint John of God Hospital in Barcelona.

In Madrid, the Volunteer Day will be held on 2 December at iberpistas‘ Operations and Control Centre in San Rafael. The day will see presentations by Cáritas Segovia, Aida Books & More, AJEMA, the Segovia Red Cross and AMREF. There will also be a football match to raise funds which will be donated to a charity project.

Corporate Volunteer Programme

“Voluntaris”, the Corporate Volunteer Programme recently set up by abertis, represents another step forward in the process of the company’s involvement in the community and the social fabric, a commitment set out in abertis‘ Strategic Social Responsibility Plan. Through this initiative, promoted by a group of the company’s workers, abertis provides its employees with a framework in which to carry out voluntary work activities during their free time, using communication and dissemination tools such as the company intranet and the internal communication channels of the various Group companies.

Through the company intranet, this initiative reaches nearly 3,000 Group employees, while abertis‘ 5,888 workers in Spain are reached through the communication channels of the different business units.

“Voluntaris” came about with the aim of creating an environment in which to carry out social volunteer work activities, participating in social projects and initiatives. The projects considered are divided into three areas:

Awareness raising: Making the people who work with the abertis Group aware of the reality of disadvantaged groups, through dissemination and participation in charity campaigns, the organisation of thematic exhibitions or conferences and other awareness-raising actions.

Participation: getting involved in volunteer activities which help to integrate and bring the community closer, through collaboration with already existing cooperation associations.

Promotion: Setting in motion charity programmes carried out by the volunteers themselves, as well as supporting and promoting social volunteer work or environmental initiatives which other employees are already carrying out.
