The cyclone hit Bangladesh last week, leaving a provisional list of 2,997 dead, 34,500 injured and nearly 1,700 disappeared. Moreover, the disaster has had a severe impact on the countrys infrastructures and housing. It is estimated that half a million homes in south-western Bangladesh were completely destroyed.
As the vice-president of the Red Cross in Catalonia, Antoni Aguilera, explained, the focus was on sending blankets and tents because, With the imminent onset of winter, the priority is to provide the victims with safe shelters in which to take refuge and keep their belongings.
Aguilera especially thanked abertis for its co-operation in supporting the Red Crosss emergency and humanitarian aid warehouse in La Pobla de Claramunt (Barcelona). This centre has 600 square metres to store materials for international emergencies.
