Abertis and the fundación abertis sign the European Road Safety Charter

abertis, as a European group dedicated to mobility and telecommunications infrastructure management,  has reaffirmed the commitment it entered into in 2006 by signing the European Road Safety Charter once more. This time the commitment includes the French motorway concession operator sanef. Another first is that the abertis foundation has signed the document as a separate body for the first time. Sergi Loughney, abertis corporate institutional relations manager and Director of the abertis foundation, signed the charter on behalf of the two organisations at the event held today at the Spanish Ministry of Health.

The abertis foundation has always worked to promote safer mobility, throughout the 11 years of its life. Its Road Safety Programme is organised in four broad areas of action: awareness-raising and publicity activities, road traffic education in schools, support for research into the subject and the organisation of technical symposia. It should also be borne in mind that the foundation puts forward measures to be taken by its branches in Italy and France.

The European Road Safety Charter is a platform made up of businesses, associations and public authorities involved in road safety. To date, more than 1,700 organisations have signed the Charter and undertaken to take specific actions with the aim of helping to reduce traffic accidents.

The signing by the Spanish organisations took place this morning at the headquarters of the Spanish ministry of health and social policy. The event was attended by personalities including Jacques Huchet, assistant head of the European Commission delegation in Spain; Ildefonso Hernández, Director-General of public health at the ministry of health; Pere Navarro, Director-General of the ministry of the interior’s general traffic directorate; Enrico Grillo, Director of Transport at the European Commission; María Teresa Sanz, project manager at the European Commission; and Pedro Calvo, Madrid city councillor responsible for safety and mobility.
