abertis acquires a Picasso painting the Government will lend to the Catalan National Art Museum

abertis reached an agreement to with the Ministry of Culture, which was approved by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, to deliver the painting in lieu of taxes owed to the Spanish government. The initiative underscores Abertis’ commitment to supporting Spain’s cultural and artistic heritage.

– The government is lending the oil painting Mujer con gorro y con cuello de piel (Marie-Thérése Walter), by Pablo Picassoto the Catalan National Art Museum (MNAC). The work will exhibited in a new room of the museum dedicated to the Malaga-born artist. 

The abertis group, in agreement with the Spanish Culture and Economy and Finance Ministries, has acquired the oil painting Mujer con gorro y con cuello de piel (1937) by Malaga-born artist Pablo Ruiz Picasso. The acquisition, for €5Mn, was made under scheme whereby the Company acquires works of art in lieu of the payment of corporate tax to the Spanish government.

Mujer con gorro y con cuello de piel, a portrait of Marie-Thérèse Walter, is an oil painting on canvas measuring 61 x 51 centimetres by the artist dated 4 December 1937. The Spanish government has lent the artist’s work to the Catalan National Art Museum (MNAC). The painting will be exhibited in a new room of the museum dedicated to this world-famous artist.

The acquisition and presentation to the government of this work by Picasso contributes to the enrichment of this heritage and underlines our commitment to this policy.

abertis and MNAC have collaborated on a previous occasion, in 2005, when the company donated the work Matèria-metall, by Antoni Tàpies, to the museum.
