The International University Campus of the Mediterranean Biosphere Reserves, hosted in the Castellet Castle, headquarters of the UNESCOMED Center, has celebrated the inauguration of the new edition of the Interdisciplinary Master in Environmental, Economic, and Social Sustainability (SAES) of the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (ICTA-UAB). This innovative program aims to train professionals capable of responding to the global challenges facing our planet, from the conservation of biodiversity to the sustainable management of natural resources.

The opening ceremony, held last Friday, October 11, was attended by Roser Maneja, scientific coordinator of the UNESCOMED Center and deputy director of research at the Forest Science and Technology Centre of Catalonia (CTFC), Mari Carmen Romera and Laia Calaf, technical coordinators of the UNESCOMED Center, and Professor Alaitz Zabala, coordinator of the SAES Master. Georgina Flamme, director of the Abertis Foundation, participated remotely in the institutional welcome.

The program’s promoters have expressed their enthusiasm for the start of this master's degree, which is part of the desire to promote research and innovation in sustainability. The training of these future professionals is essential to guarantee a sustainable development that balances the environmental, economic, and social needs of our society.

The master's degree offers an all-encompassing training, combining theoretical and practical knowledge in areas such as ecology, economics, sociology, and environmental policy. In addition, students will have the opportunity to participate in real projects in collaboration with Mediterranean biosphere reserves, an experience that will enrich their training and prepare them to face the challenges of working in a constantly changing world.
